AI Hustle in Automobile

A few years ago brands like BMW and Audi embraced AI technology. It was the moment of big brands embracing the update in technology. It is like when cars became more than a medium of transport. The automobile industry has evolved with time embracing new technologies and discarding the old. It is constantly trying to reach a point of perfection. When it comes to AI involvement in automobiles, the question is, will AI function more than just self-driving? What more does AI have to offer to your driving experience?

Recently ZF Friedrichshafen, who are mammoth in gearbox supply, revealed the next generation Pro AI. It is supposed to reach a production state around 2024. It has been graded as the most powerful automotive-grade supercomputer. Pro AI can be used in any type of vehicle and used for numerous purposes. This can include self-driving intelligence.

This is one of the many types of forthcoming supercomputers that will be on board. They can be used as a zone controller or even domain controllers. The key to succeeding in AI merging is of course to have an awareness of the environment and the situation it is facing. AI can and will combine all sense data like cameras, radar, lidar, and audio. Further, it will also be equipped with the ability of deep learning. This can better the sense of autonomous driving. It can store the data and improve the working of the AI.

Adapting to AI can be tough of course. When AI first interfered with driving in disguise of GPS, there were many issues that had to be rectified. GPS working included understanding our position through satellite and then of course finding the best route from one point to the other. The problem wasn’t always the fault of the GPS. People themselves couldn’t embrace technology easily. There were cases of people driving from Turkey to the North of England instead of Spain or people driving their car into lakes and rivers.

When it comes to anonymous driving, safety is of utmost importance. Radar systems, Lidar systems (It works like radar except it uses light waves instead of radio waves). This can work together to navigate through traffic and detect the light signals and other cars.

AI is heavily involved in modern times automobile. Driver assistance is functions totally based on AI monitoring. It helps in monitoring and alerting drivers of any forthcoming danger. It can correct cars from drifting out of lanes or slip of traction control and ABS. They obviously have aided in bettering the driving experience without the fear of losing control.

Things cannot end here though. The next AI development will be of course navigating through traffic and monitoring the course. City planners want to have sensors that can send data to regulate traffic and reduce congestion. There will be no piling up traffic at one end and this can ensure a more free-flowing city working. AI system also has the ability to reduce accidents. Accidents globally are responsible for at least 1.35 million deaths. This figure is without considering all the non-fatal injuries in accidents and close calls. AI can aid in reducing driving distraction, weak driving skills, and overspeeding. These are the main reasons for all the accidents.

However, despite all the good points of AI, there are of course some problems that need to be addressed. Even if AI can react faster than the human brain does, it will be challenged to react according to the situation. A human brain can react to any situation in a number of ways. It can be challenging to program a computer to react according to situation and merit. Individuals deal with different situations in different ways according to their personal choice, culture, habits, decision-making skill, reflexes, etc. Hence human interference is something that will be required to avoid any mishaps for a while. It will be interesting to see how much more AI can get involved in automobiles. What are your thoughts? Write in the comment section.
